The County of Cortland Traffic Diversion Program

Established by Patrick Perfetti, County of Cortland District Attorney

The Diversion program is designed to enable traffic ticket offenders to resolve their current vehicle and traffic tickets quickly and easily.

Participation in this program allows the offender to settle a traffic citation without court appearances, points on their driver’s license, or increases in insurance premiums.

Let’s Get Started …

  1. In order to participate in the County of Cortland Traffic Diversion Program, you are required to obtain a Standard Driving Record (Abstract) from the Department of Motor Vehicles. New York State residents can purchase their abstract from the New York State DMV. Residents of other states or countries will need to contact their local motor vehicle department.

IMPORTANT: You will be required to upload the abstract in the registration process, Therefore, you need to obtain this abstract BEFORE you register for the program in step 2 below.

  2. Click here to open the Diversion Connect registration form. You will need to complete the entire form and submit your payment. To simplify this process, please have your driver’s license, traffic citation, and credit or debit card with you when you begin.
  3. Register for and participate in an approved Defensive Driving Course. A list of available courses can be found on the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) web site. (For your convenience, this link will open a new browser window). Please keep in mind that it may take up to 15 business days to receive your Defensive Driving Course completion certificate by mail. You are responsible for making sure you upload your certificate on time.
  4. Upon completion of the Defensive Driving course, return to this site and upload a copy of your certificate of completion.

IMPORTANT:
Please be aware that as of 10/1/23 the Diversion Program will no longer be an option for resolving traffic tickets in Cortland County. Previously approved motorists will still be able to submit their certificates of completion within their 60-day window.

Defendants who have received a traffic ticket after this deadline should either attend court as stated on the ticket or follow the instructions here to request a reduction.

Thank you.
